The Recteq BFG-2500 is one of the largest pellet smokers Recteq has to offer. An impressive 2500″ of cooking space, and according to Recteq’s site, it will hold 300 wings, 30 racks of ribs, 30 pork butts or 24 pork loins. I cook a lot of chicken, and I have been able to get 20 whole chickens on the grill with room for a few more.

The brain of this unit is the PID. It has 2 temperature probe ports and is wifi compatible. It has a temperature range from 180 to 500 degrees. The highest temp that I have used is 450. It struggled to maintain that temp, but it was a very cold and windy day. Since there is such a large cooking chamber, I like to start it at least 1 hour prior to cooking. It does a good job of maintaining temperature after target is reached. I recommend not keeping the lid open any longer that you have too. There can be temp spikes if the lid is open for a long time.

The unit is very solid, coming in a 460 lbs and with the rear mounted pellet hopper holding 53 lbs of pellets, the 4 swivel casters still allow you to maneuver the grill with ease. There are dual smokestacks and dual grease pans. I think the dual bulls horn handles give it a little flair! There are 2 adjustable shelves while the bottom consists of 4 separate grates. I would prefer the bottom being a solid grate that would slide out. When you have the smoker loaded down with food, getting to the rear of the lower grate is almost impossible.

I did have an issue with the heat deflector cracking after about 2 weeks of use. I contacted Recteq customer service, and they replaced it without any issue.

I recently did a “biscuit test” using the BFG-2500, see the video here. The right side of this unit cooks hotter that the left. All in all, I am very happy with the BFG-2500. I purchased it with cooking larger quantities of chicken in mind and it does that very well. I would recommend this unit to anyone that needs the ease of use of a pellet grill and the larger cooking area that this unit has.
