I learned at a young age that good times seemed to center around food. Growing up with the fond memories of our family meals at Holidays, all of the stories being told by our Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles over turkey and pumpkin pie. My teen years going out for pizza with friends on Friday night after the football game. I realized after joining the Air Force after high school that it was kind of a nationwide thing. While attending tech school at Keesler AFB in Mississippi, our weekends were filled with shrimp boils on the beach and just a little bit of partying. My first real exposure to Bar-B Que was in my first duty station after tech school. I was stationed at Grissom AFB in Indiana. I had been there about 3 weeks when our squadron had a get together at Mississinewa Reservoir. An NCO from another shop had set up his campsite and built a big fire. On a spit over that fire was the biggest piece of beef that I had ever seen! I just remember the knife sticking out of it and cutting off a chunk. From that point forward I had Bar-B Que in my blood. That was close to 40 years ago. Several grills and smokers later, I decided to share what I have learned along the way. I truly miss the times spent with my family from a half century ago and the times spent with the friends from my youth. My suggestion to you is to buy a chunk of meat, throw it on some fire and call some people you have talked to in a while to come and enjoy it! You won’t regret it!
